Labor

Labor for a term delivery can occur any time after 37 weeks. We always encourage evaluation in labor and delivery if a patient thinks she might be in active labor.

Active labor is defined by uterine contractions that change the cervix approximately 1 centimeter per hour. Signs of labor might include:

• Spontaneous gush of fluid
• Regular contractions every 5 minutes for at least one hour
• Bleeding more than spotting

If any of the above occur at term or any point in pregnancy, evaluation in labor and delivery is recommended.
